My Story
Hi! My name is Julie and I am a breast cancer survivor! This will be my 3rd year walking and raising money for a cure. As I sit down to write "my story" every year for this amazing fundraiser, I realize that "my story" changes every time. But for others, their story might not change. This is why I walk for Susan G. Komen, to fight for women just like me.
I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in January 2024. I had chemotherapy, radiation, a double mastectomy/lymph node removal and surgery to remove my tissue expanders. After the journey I had, I made the decision to not get implants or have reconstructive surgery. I am flat like a washboard and proud of it! (Humor gets me through)
I have learned a lot while on this journey and I am so thankful to be in the coolest club ever. Almost as cool as my Mom club. Currently, I have been on hormone replacement therapy, which has been very difficult. But I am managing.
Since my breast cancer, I have slowly been rebuilding all the parts of me that I lost along the way and living my "new normal," while exploring this next chapter called Survivorship. I fight every day to survive for my family, my friends, and anyone I have met who has/had breast cancer.
Please donate today to help women like myself fight and beat a terrible disease that still needs research, still needs trials, and still needs resources! I am so excited to be apart of Susan G. Komen and I can't wait to walk this year! Thank you!
