I've been participating in this walk since I turned 50 in 2019.  I started walking back then in gratitude for my own health in not having breast cancer and in honor of those women who I personally knew had battled breast cancer.  I naively thought that I'd just continue to walk for them.  I honestly didn't consider that someday I might walk for me too.  But that's where I am this year - not only proudly walking beside my sister-in-law who herself is a breast cancer survivor but also as a survivor myself.  If there's such a thing as luck when it comes to cancer, then I am one of the lucky ones whose cancer was caught early.  I'm hopeful for my future and will continue to participate in this walk to be hopeful for all those who will be diagnosed in the future.  

This year alone, more than 300,000 people living in the U.S. are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer. And while great strides have been made in prevention and treatment, there is still so much work to be done to find the cures to end this terrible disease.
