My Pink Promise
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. But breast cancer doesn’t wait for October. Neither did mine.
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2023, I quickly learned that I had to lean into strengths I didn’t even know I had. One of them was learning to wait (a lot!), another was recognizing that it was okay to ask for help.
Throughout my journey, from diagnosis through surgeries and everything that followed, I never felt alone. I had support from my family, friends, coworkers, my kids’ schools, and even strangers. The list goes on.
I will be forever thankful for that support. And it fueled a sense of purpose in me: making a “Pink Promise” to myself, to other cancer heroes, and to anyone who joins this community — no one should have to face this alone, and we will fight together.
It wasn’t easy to ask for and accept help then, and it’s not easy now. But we can’t do this alone.
