"They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Personally, I think it just makes you eligible for a lot of expensive scans and a very pink wardrobe."
The Fight of a Lifetime
In October 2024, my world changed with a diagnosis of Stage 3 Breast Cancer. What followed was a marathon of treatments that turned me into a professional patient. My fight began in November 2024 with intensive chemotherapy, and I proudly completed my final session on March 31, 2025.
The battle didn't stop there. Iā€™ve undergone a series of life-altering surgeries and treatments, which I like to think of as a forced "upgrade" (Iā€™m basically a Lego set now):
May 2025: Double mastectomy with lymph node dissection and reconstruction.
July ā€“ Aug 2025: 30 sessions of radiation.
December 2025: Expander and implant exchange surgery.
March 2026: Total hysterectomy.
Today, my journey continues through hormone blockers and Verzenio treatments. Every step I take in the Greater St. Louis More Than Pink Walk represents a milestone passed and a future fought for.
The "Why" Behind the Walk
I am walking because the research Susan G. Komen funds is the reason I have the treatment plan I have today. I walk to support the Komen mission to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.
