As a breast cancer survivor, I understand the value of the support, services and resources that Susan G. Komen provides to those battling breast cancer. I was fortunate enough to have excellent health care insurance, access to top-notch care, a supportive and flexible employer, dependable transportation, and a rock solid support system. Not everyone has that, and Susan G. Komen is here to step in the gap for those warriors in need.
What makes me VIPink is my journey as a breast cancer survivor and my commitment to turning that experience into purpose. I raise my voice to increase awareness, raise funds, and help move us closer to a world without breast cancer. I am passionate about being a beacon of hope—reminding those currently battling breast cancer that they are not alone, that strength comes in many forms, and that there is life, joy, and possibility beyond diagnosis.
In all honesty, other than my naturally competitive spirit, I don't know that I necessarily have a competitive edge. What I do have is a desire to give back and make a difference, and I believe that survivorship comes with the responsibility to encourage, and inspire those currently in the fight. I want to be a beacon of hope, and offer support wherever I can. In the end, maybe my survivorship is my competitive edge. It drives me to push forward and do what I can to make a difference!
