I first started participating in Komen walks about 25 years ago in honor of a friend's mother that had and later succumbed to breast cancer. My sister is a two time survivor, and most recently, my wife's cousin has had to face her second round with this cancer.
I returned to school a few years ago, and a close friend encouraged me to join the accounting dept at Susan G. Komen. Since then my knowledge of the cancer has grown. Seeing the great steps that Komen has taken to prevent this cancer as well has assist everyone that is currently dealing with it makes me proud of my work and the organization. You will usually see me at the Dallas Race or 3-Day, wearing my crazy pink wig and working or cheering on the participants.
I enjoy working at Komen and am an enthusiastic person. My normal role at Komen doesn't interact with the public, so my participation in VIPink provides me with an opportunity to interact with Komen stakeholders. This will be my second year participating in VIPink. I learned a few things last year about what it takes to get people engaged. While it is a “competition” amongst the VIPink ambassadors, I truly hope we are all successful in this fundraiser.
Otherwise, you may see my family and I visiting historical markers in the great state of Texas. I have visited and photographed a few thousand so far, but there are tens of thousands of places in the state to find more!
