What makes you feel connected to Susan G. Komen and our mission to end breast cancer?
Lisa Vanlerberghe: I was a teenager when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and then at age 42 I was diagnosed. I am thankful to work for an amazing company that offers great benefits, one of which is a partnership with a mobile mammogram unit who first identified my cancer. I am on a mission to help those that may not have the same access to health care AND I am committed to helping find the cures so 1 in 8 families are no longer impacted by the words "you have breast cancer".
Delia Noblecilla: As I approach my 10th year survivorship anniversary, I can think back of the many ways I saw Susan G. Komen programs to support people like me, find their way through the fog of information you and your loved ones are exposed to from the moment of your diagnosis, during treatment and beyond. Support groups, access to services and above all a relentless drive to find the cures. I started attending the annual walk in the fall and years later supporting fundraising through the Big Wigs campaign.
Emily Rivera: I just celebrated 5 years breast-cancer-free this past November, thanks to research and outreach made possible by organizations like Susan G. Komen. I am so incredibly grateful for the life-saving work Komen does!
Melissa Buldak: I was diagnosed with breast cancer after my first ever mammogram at age 42. Although my mother passed away of cancer when I was 17, it was not breast cancer and I had no family history. I never thought I would have it. I felt invincible until this happened. Screenings and early preventions are so important! Two years cancer free and I celebrate every day!!!!
Where might people get to see you with your wig on?
Delia: With my two kids now in college, my husband and I are spending more time taking short driving distance trips looking for hiking trails during the weekends. Otherwise, we try to visit our daughter when she is not on duty or our son's swim meets. When in town, probably at Life Time trying to keep up with workout routine.
Emily: You might find me wearing my wig while I'm out for a run along the Menomonee River Parkway, or enjoying some delicious cheese curds with my family.
Melissa: I will be wearing it out and about in my neighborhood Bayview. At all my favorite bars and restaurants, walking the dogs and out enjoying my adopted home of Milwaukee.
What will be your competitive edge against the other BigWigs?
Lisa: As a team representing Molson Coors we will harness the collective genius of each other to identify fun and exiting ways to raise donations! We are the competitive edge!
Delia: Beyond a very supportive family, I have the luxury of belonging to one of the best corporate families in town. Molson Coors had been there for me when I most needed it. The sense of community is strong and giving back is part of our DNA.
Emily: The fabulous team I am a part of from Molson Coors is definitely a competitive edge, as we are all strong and fun women with a common goal- ending breast cancer.
Melissa: My spirit and spunk!
What is one fun fact about you?
Delia: I love to dance!
Emily: I have run 58 half marathons and 10 full marathons, and have two more half marathons coming up this April and May!
Melissa: I won the spirit award in basketball two years in a row as a kid—may have been the last time I ever played competitive sports.
