As a nurse, I have dedicated my career to caring for others. But in 2013, breast cancer became deeply personal for me when my mother was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer, one of which was triple negative. Her diagnosis led to multiple surgeries and the removal of 25 lymph nodes before she began a long, painful journey through multiple rounds of chemotherapy. Watching my mother endure such difficult treatment was heartbreaking, but her strength and resilience were extraordinary. Today, I am grateful to share that she is in remission and doing well.

Through my mother’s diagnosis, I also learned that I am a BRCA1 carrier, a discovery that forever changed my life and strengthened my commitment to the fight against breast cancer.

Because of both my personal experience and my professional role in healthcare, I understand how devastating this disease can be for patients and families. That is why I recently joined the Susan G. Komen board and am proud to support Komen’s mission to end breast cancer forever.
