Hi friends! It’s time for the Susan G Komen race for the cure! If you’re able, please donate to this amazing cause. Your donation can help save lives!! I like to use this opportunity to share my mom’s story in hopes that even though she is no longer it with us, she will be encouragement for others to stay on top of their breast health
Here’s her story—
In February 2024, my mom received her initial diagnosis. Invasive ductal carcinoma. Grade 3–the most aggressive and fast spreading. She was scared, but ready for the fight. And she did just that for the entire year, she “fought like a mother.” She made it through two different round of chemotherapy, one of those being the brutal “red devil.” Then came the mastectomy. Followed by radiation. Even though all of this, she still managed to show up—for her children, grandchildren, friends, and family, she was there. By December she was done with her treatments. Then on Christmas Eve, she went to the ER. It was there we learned that the cancer had spread. It was in her stomach, bones, and liver. Even after this news, she still showed up early on Christmas morning and carried on like everything was ok even though we all knew it wasn’t. A few days later, she was back in the hospital. After about a week there, they determined there was nothing left to do and she was discharged to hospice. We were hoping for a few weeks with her. We got her home on January 8th and she died around 2am on January 10th.
