Hi! I'm Tanner, the Tanner behind Tanner's Breasties. I'm a flight attendant, and in January 2025, I was on a layover in Sydney, Australia when I had a dream in which someone told me to check my breasts. The next morning, I remembered the dream, performed a self exam, and found a grape-sized lump in my left breast. Theres never a great time to have a cancer scare, but i'm pretty sure the worst time to have one is when you're halfway around the world.
On February 28, 2025, at 32 years old, I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer.
After that, life moved fast. I went through fertility treatment to freeze my eggs, 6 rounds of chemotherapy, a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction, 6 weeks of radiation, 14 rounds of Kadcyla (targeted therapy with a little hint of chemo just for fun) and another breast surgery.
How did I get involved with the walk?
Tanner's Breasties actually began with my girlfriends from college.
Even though we live across the country from each other, my giirls found a way to show up for me during treatment: phone calls, texts, handwritten letters, care package's. There's nothing like cancer to thicken the plot and really get the group message popping. Then they had the idea for us to do the MORE THAN PINK Walk together.
At first, the walk was just something fun we could all do together. It was a way for my girls to physically be there for me and celebrate all of the little milestones I had conquered so far.
As the walk got closer, it became so much more.
When so much of my life revolved around appointments, treatments and surgeries, the walk gave me something exciting to look forward to. It gave me something positive to focus on. Somewhere along the way, something that started as a fun day with my girlfriends became deeply personal.
Last year, Tanner's Breasties showed up in a *big* way, and I'll l never be able to adequately thank everyone who walked, donated, shared our fundraiser, sent encouragement or supported us from afar.
...
After 16 months of fighting, on June 24, 2026, I finally rang the bell surrounded by my family, friends and nurses.
I was officially in my remission era!
Last year, I walked while I was still in treatment. This year, I get to come back on the other side.
I'm walking to celebrate this huge milestone in my own journey, but Tanner's Breasties is about so much more than me. We walk to honor those we have lost to breast cancer, support those who are still in the fight, celebrate everyone who has made it to their own remission era, and help create a future where fewer people ever have to hear the words, "You have breast cancer."
And yes... we are in a little bit of a fundraising time crunch this year. My bad. Turns out healing from 16 months of treatment, ringing the bell and recovering from another breast surgery left me slightly off my fundraising game.
So we're making up for lost time!
Whether it's $5, $50, or literally the loose change rattling around your car, every donation matters. Donations help fund breast cancer research, patient care, advocacy and programs that support people through this disease. And don't forget to check whether your employer matches charitable donations, your gift could go twice as far!
Most importantly, I would love for you to join us at the MORE THAN PINK Walk in San Diego on November 1, 2026.
Better yet, join Tanner's Breasties!
Friends, family, coworkers, survivors, thrivers, emotional support people, everyone is welcome.
Last year you helped turn a group of my girlfriends walking beside me into something bigger than I ever expected.
This year, Tanner's Breasties is walking into my remission era together.
