My Story

Last year, the unthinkable happened to me. I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Invasive Lobular Carcinoma in the 7 o’clock of my right breast. When I had my first surgery appointment, it was so terrifying. I found out it was caught early and I felt some slight relief. Having the option to do a genetics test was offered to me, so I said yes.

Going into surgery details, I had many options. The most practical one at the time was to have a Lumpectomy and my surgeon assured me that I wouldn’t even notice a difference in size with clothes on. When my genetics test came back, everything changed and I found out I was BRCA2+. I instantly knew that this meant the worst as far as surgery goes.

On July 1, I underwent the first surgery of my life and got a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction. Expanders were placed in my chest in replacement of all my breast tissue. It was so painful. But oddly enough, it was one of the most incredible experiences I have ever been through. I never knew my personal strength until then. I never knew how your body can heal itself and that all it takes is a positive mindset and A LOT of support. SO many friends and family came to my side and took care of me. And my partner, Carter who was in this just as much with me.

On October 10th, I had my final reconstructive surgery and at the same times had my ovaries and fallopian tubes removed. Which is highly recommended if you have the BRCA2+ gene mutation. I have taken all steps to keep myself alive and healthy and know that I will do whatever it takes to help raise awareness for not just breast cancer, but all cancers.

Thank you for reading my story, I love you.
