Received Five Donations

My first Three Day and my next More than Pink

Over twenty years ago, I decided to face the fears that were giving me nightmares, and walk the Seattle 3Day. I was the age my mom had been when she found the lump that changed her life. She had health insurance, and an excellent team of doctors, and she survived, but some of her friends did not. Knowing that breast cancer was still a killer, blessed with good health (and health insurance) myself, I decided I would do what I could and signed up, fully convinced I could not raise enough money or enough stamina to make it to the end.

But I had friends who supported me, donated to my fund drive, came out at 6am in the rain to see me off on my first steps. It was a life-changing experience for me, and when it was over, I had new friends, new respect for exactly how far a mile is, and very great respect for the walkers I met who were undergoing treatment, but still walking for others.

I didn't plan to walk the next year, until I got a phone call from a friend. "Are you walking this year? I just found out my neighbor has breast cancer." I couldn't bring myself to say "No."..so I walked again. For twenty years I've walked if there was an event in Seattle

This spring, I figured I might retire but then I got the email: "Tina just found out that she has breast cancer...are you walking?"

I still can't say No. I've asked over the years "How far would you walk to find a cure for breast cancer." My answer is still the same. "As far as I have to." I'm hoping to do at least ten miles over two days during the Seattle More than Pink event weekend.

Some of you have been with me the whole way. We still have some traveling to do together. Please join me once again in the effort to find a cure for breast cancer, and support those who are suffering from this disease. The Seattle Komen Foundation not only supports research, but helps pay for mammograms (early detection is still our best defense) and for treatment and support through treatment, to make sure breast cancer victims receive the care they need.Your donations do save lives!
