I was diagnosed with breast cancer in January. I ended up having five biopsies, and three of the five tested positive for cancer. Thankfully, all of the spots were non-invasive. I made my decision, and by March, surgery was scheduled for a double mastectomy with reconstruction. I am doing well! I am thankful that I went for my mammograms yearly (thank you, Alan, for pushing me each year to go!). I am also thankful and grateful for the person who read my scans and said, "We need to take a closer look at this." Without those two factors, my story would be totally different. I went through genetic testing and found that I carry a gene called CHEK2 that has been found to cause breast cancer. I am currently waiting to have my reconstruction surgery, which I hope will happen before the end of the year. Today I am cancer free! I am grateful and blessed that this is my story
