As a mother, nothing can prepare you for the moment that you hear your daughter has breast cancer.    To hear those words not once, but twice, has been one of the greatest emotional challenges of my life.

In 2025, both of my daughters were diagnosed with breast cancer and tested positive for the BRCA2 mutation.

One of my daughters underwent chemotherapy, immunotherapy with Keytruda, radiation and a double mastectomy with reconstruction. After her treatment and surgery, the pathology report showed clear margins. Her doctor told us that the addition of Keytruda to her treatment made a significant difference in her outcome. Keytruda was approved for triple negative breast cancer in July 2021, and we are grateful it was available to her.

My other daughter made the courageous decision to have a prophylactic double mastectomy because of her high risk. Just one week after her surgery, she received the news that cancer had been found. The treatment recommended for her high grade DCIS was the same surgery she had already undergone. Her decision was not only courageous, but life-saving.

Throughout this journey, both of my daughters have been blessed with dedicated teams guiding them through their treatment and recovery.

In 2025, I stood with tears in my eyes as I watched one of my daughters walk alongside other breast cancer survivors. In 2026, I will have the honor of watching both of my daughters walk in solidarity as survivors.
