Hi everyone — I’m Brett, and I’m proudly walking the Komen Breast Cancer Walk this year as a recent breast cancer survivor.
2026 came in hot for me: biopsies, scans, insurance drama (Aetna… we need to talk), chemo cycles, wig auditions, and learning that candles, hydration, and long walks in my neighborhood during treatment were my secret superpowers. I shaved my head, reorganized my life (bi-weekly housekeeping? Yes!), named my wigs Michelle and Bobbie, and discovered that even on the hardest days, optimism really is medicine.
After nine months of chemo, surgery, radiation, and more biopsies than I can count, my oncologist finally said the words I’d been fighting for: no evidence of cancer. I’m officially in remission and stepping into survivorship with gratitude, energy, and a whole lot of sass.
This walk matters to me because research, support, and community are the reason I’m here — healthy, healing, and ready for my next chapter (which definitely includes travel and the occasional glass of wine). I’m walking for myself, for every woman who’s still fighting, and for the ones we’ve lost far too soon.
