My Breast Cancer Journey

I found out I was BRCA positive after my mom had a reoccurrence of breast cancer in 2016. I began seeing a breast specialist and oncologist annually with imaging to monitor my breast proactively. My plan was to have a double mastectomy as soon as I was done having children if possible.

In 2023, while weaning my nine-month-old son, I found a small lump in my left breast. After a biopsy, I was diagnosed with early-stage HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. A lymph node was also positive.

I underwent chemotherapy and then a double mastectomy in early 2024. Thankfully, pathology showed no detectable cancer cells, and I was considered to be in full remission. I then completed radiation in August 2024 as an added precaution.

My reconstruction journey has been a long one, with more bumps in the road than I ever expected. Reconstruction began in 2025, but after developing an infection over the July 4th holiday, my left implant had to be removed so my body could heal. In March 2026, I underwent a latissimus dorsi flap surgery to create a healthy new pocket for reconstruction. In May, my plastic surgeon placed a tissue expander, and I’m hopeful that my next (and hopefully final) surgery later this year will complete my reconstruction journey.

This experience has changed me in so many ways. I’m incredibly grateful to be here, to watch my children grow, and to have the support of so many amazing people along the way. But I also know that my story is just one of so many. Too many families are still facing a breast cancer diagnosis, and too many people are still losing their battles.

That’s why I’m asking you to join my team for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K!

Whether you walk with us, donate, or simply share our team page, your support helps fund breast cancer research, awareness, education, and better treatments for the future.

I would absolutely love to have you by my side as we walk in honor of everyone affected by breast cancer—and in hope of a future where fewer families have to hear the words, “You have cancer.”

Please join my team and help me walk for a cure!

Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. Funds raised help support breakthrough research and provide assistance to those facing breast cancer who need our support. Whether it’s emotional support through Komen’s financial assistance program or navigation services to break down barriers to care, Komen will be there for them.
Ending breast cancer needs all of us, and your generosity can make a real difference. Together, let’s show breast cancer patients there’s a whole community standing by their side.
Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today?
