Walking for Our Angel and Warrior is More Than Pink

Losing my mother to breast cancer when I was just a teenager fundamentally reshaped the course of my life. She was only 35 years old—an age that feels heartbreakingly young now that I am older. In what felt like a single moment, our world cracked open. My older sister and I were left trying to navigate our teenage years while carrying an unimaginable weight, and our little sister was just a toddler, robbed of the chance to truly know the mother who adored her.

During those quiet, heavy moments of illness, stepping into a caretaking role for my mom became my whole world. It was in those long hours of watching, comforting, and trying to heal the person I loved most that my entire life’s path crystallized. The compassion, resilience, and calling I found while caring for her planted the very first seeds of my passion for the health field.

Now, that fight feels closer to home than ever. My aunt was just recently diagnosed with breast cancer, bringing a wave of familiar fear, but even more fierce determination.

That is why I am lacing up my shoes and registered for the Komen Race for the Cure. I race to honor her vibrant life that was cut far too short. I'm racing with my sisters, who walked through that devastating storm with me, and for every family that has had to face the shadow of this disease. Also to every family that has had to say a premature goodbye to someone they couldn't imagine living without. By participating, I am fighting for a future where no other little toddler has to grow up without their mother, and no other teenager has to feel the sharp, enduring pain of such a profound loss.

If you are able, I would be so deeply grateful for your support in helping me reach my fundraising goal, so we can turn our shared pain into life-saving progress.
