Twenty-three years ago, we started this team when Julie finished treatment for early-stage breast cancer. We were celebrating survivorship. We never imagined what lay ahead.

Since then:

• Julie's cancer returned as Stage IV metastatic breast cancer.

• We lost our grandmother to breast cancer.

• Both my stepsister and I were diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.

Julie lived 13 powerful years with metastatic disease — advocating, building community, and inspiring others. "Waging War on Stage IV" was her mission. She showed us that cancer may change your path, but it does not take your spirit.

I race to honor Julie.
I race for my grandmother.
I race as a survivor.
I race for those still fighting.

There is still no cure for metastatic breast cancer — only treatment. That must change.
