This year marks five years as a breast cancer survivor. Around this time of the year in 2020 as I was nearing the end of a year-long treatment regimine, I began reflecting on my experience and thinking about what was next. I wanted to do something meaningful as a result of my cancer treatment.
I was already familiar with Susan G. Komen and its vision for a world free from breast cancer. As I looked through their website, I learned about the depth of their advocacy work through its Center for Public Policy. I felt this was a place I could do something with my experience to hopefully impact how breast cancer is diagnosed and treated in our country. Right away, I signed up to be an Advocacy Ambassador.
As an ambassador, I've had the opportunity to travel to DC with hundreds of other survivors and supporters to advocate for legislation that impacts early diagnosis, treatment, and research for breast cancer.
