Shelly clearly benefitted from the constant updates and improvements in treatments and care for MBC. When she was diagnosed in September of 2018, the hope was for 5 years. She was always an overachiever and got 7 years. In that 7 years, she and Burt welcomed 3 beautiful grandaughters; she danced with Andrew at his wedding to Kari and she spent the summer in Leland at her happy place on Lake Michigan with her beloved daughters, Megan and Katherine and lots of family and friends. Shelly was always positive and had a smile on her face when you knew the struggle was real. She had a great group of friends-Shelly's Squad who supported on every step of her journey.
The Race was always a high point of the year for Shelly and she worked hard to raise money for Susan G. Komen, knowing the money was going to research and for the next best treatment. If it could not help her, she wanted to continue to raise money to help other women diagnosed with this insidious disease. As the daughter of someone who passed from breast cancer, Shelly was hell bent on finding a cure so that her daughters and granddaughters would never suffer if faced with a breast cancer diagnosis.
Last year, our team was one of the top fundraising teams for the Toledo Race. We hope to exceed last year's amount by at least 50%.
Please consider joining our team. If you cannot join us for the walk, I hope you will consider making a donation to Michelle and Shelly's Breast Friends Club.
With love and gratitude,
Michelle
