Help Me Celebrate 15 Years of Survivorship

Fifteen years of SURVIVORSHIP and it often seems like yesterday. Many details of my diagnosis, surgery and early recovery are so clear in my mind.

·      The phone call that I needed additional x-rays after my annual mammogram.

·      The moments in the procedure room for the biopsy when the care team told me Dr P. was absolutely the surgeon I wanted because of his attention to detail.

·       The phone call in my office with Norm to receive the results of the biopsy.

·      Having our CEO tell me the company would do whatever I needed to get the best care.

·      Running the Columbus Race for the Cure five days before surgery.

·      Norm wearing his Buckeye gear to surgery day at OSUWMC – just for a little extra luck at the hospital. Of course, Dr. P. promised they do their best for their patients Buckeye fans or not

·      The incessant beeping of the tissue oximeter for most of my hospital stay (eventually they changed out the defective device)

·      The good news that the sentinel nodes were clear

·      My family giving support while letting me be the stubborn patient I am

·      Having a great Plastic Surgery team for all the follow-up procedures.

·      Every day I know I am blessed.

These are just a few of many vivid recollections. There were a few rough days. There were strange days realizing I am a survivor having never felt I was a true cancer patient since I wasn’t “ill”.

Most importantly I am thankful every day for Norm, my family and their love. I am grateful to my care team at OSU. I am so fortunate to have benefited from the advocacy and achievements of Susan G. Komen toward advancements in care.

I began participating in Race for the Cure events many years before my diagnosis in support of family members touched by this awful disease. I will keep racing for their memory, for my health and for the long list of friends and family who face down and overcome in their own breast cancer journey!

I humbly ask for your support for my 2026 Columbus Race for the Cure in celebration of 15 years of survivorship.
