Our Journey Through Breast Cancer
May 2023: a date that changed everything.
I went in for my first mammogram- a routine, preventative screening because my cousin had recently been diagnosed. I wasn?t worried. I was told it was common to get called back after a first screening.
But when they asked me to come in the very next morning, something inside me shifted.
They took more images. Then more. Then they led me to the doctor?s office, and I saw the scans on the screen. I didnt need to be told- I just knew.
A week later, it was confirmed: I had breast cancer.
Then Came June 2025:
Just two years later, my mother, Joyce Chunn, had her annual mammogram. An abnormal result. A biopsy. Initially, just pre-cancerous cells.
But after a lumpectomy on July 11th, the truth came out.
It was cancer.
Another surgery.
Now, she?s in the middle of radiation, with treatment wrapping up in October.
Our Story Is One of Fear- but also of Faith, Family, and Hope.
We began this journey terrified. But we weren?t alone.
Our family, friends, and faith carried us through.
Our medical team became our lifeline.
The love, the support, the strength- we?ve felt it in waves.
And even on the hardest days- when I was scared, in pain, grieving the parts of myself I?ve lost- God has never left our side.
?Do not be afraid, for I am with you!
Do not be discouraged, for I am your God!
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.?
- Isaiah 41:10
That verse has been my anchor. It still is.
