Welcome to our Detroit Race for the Cure Waging War on Stage IV with Hipple’s Heroes team page!… a part of the greater Ford team.
On September 14th, I will be participating in the Race for the Cure at Milliken State Park in Detroit. Would you support my fight against breast cancer by joining my team, with a tax-deductible donation, or with your thoughts and prayers for those fighting breast cancer? The event is a 5K walk/run benefiting the charity Susan G. Komen, whose ONE mission is to end breast cancer. Money raised through the Race for the Cure is used to fund research and to support programs in the local community to help women facing breast cancer.
I started my team over 20 years ago to honor my sister, Julie, who had just finished treatment for early stage breast cancer. Little did I know at the time that our creating our team and raising funds was an investment in my family’s future. In the year’s since that first race, my family has been greatly affected by breast cancer. My sister’s cancer returned and metastasized, my grandmother died with breast cancer, and both my step-sister and myself were diagnosed with breast cancer. Many of the treatments my sister has had since her Stage IV diagnosis were discovered since we started raising funds. And when I was diagnosed, I benefited directly from genetic testing that wasn’t even available 10 years ago. Although many strides have been made in detection and treatment, about 30% of women who had early stage breast cancer will eventually have stage IV metastatic breast cancer and there are only treatments, not cures.
That’s why I am dedicated to Komen’s ONE mission to end breast cancer. Please consider joining my team and/or making a tax-deductible donation in support of my fundraising effort.
