What makes you feel connected to Susan G. Komen and our mission to end breast cancer?
As the Executive of Global Chamber San Antonio, I was honored to be invited as a Pink Tie Guy to help end breast cancer. I have personally fought stage three prostate cancer and later stage four lymph node cancer and am living today under God's grace and mercy. As a retired US Air Force officer I know fighting cancer is a series of battles and the goal is to ultimately win the war. San Antonio is known as Military City USA, also as a city with a majority large Hispanic population. Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among Hispanic/Latina women. As a Black man, I also know the devastating impact of breast cancer on the Black family, where our mothers and aunts and cousins are more likely to die of the disease than any other racial group. I have heard from some Black women recently that they feel left out or ignored by the Susan G. Komen organization, and that they do not receive enough support or resources to cope with their diagnosis and treatment. This is why I decided to join the cause and help raise money and bring awareness for breast cancer. I hope to share the facts and the stories of women of color who are affected by breast cancer, and to show the commitment and dedication of the Susan G. Komen organization to end this disease for everyone. I hope you should show your compassion with a love offering! Thank you and May God Bless You!
