When I first served as a Pink Tie Guy for Susan G. Komen in 2022, I had no idea that just 2 or 3 months later that my mother would be diagnosed with breast cancer. I had close friends who have survived breast cancer as well as some who have lost the fight. So, when my mother was diagnosed, it hit home even moreso. I salute her great spirits, and thankfully, she has gone through her treatment and a single mastectomy. The treatment made her have heart issues and thus, she just removed 1 breast instead of both. Thankfully, she has returned to being a very active retiree.
I was able to be with her during the 1st treatment as well as the days afterwards. The treatment can be brutal, but I saw first hand the strides that have been made to help the patients get through this intense chemotherapy and radiation. Simple things such as anti-nausea treatment exists now but I'm certain didn't exist before. Chemotherapy and radiation equally exists now vs before. So, the research that organizations like Susan G. Komen and other breast cancer organizations are working. I've been praising God for keeping my mama, and I"ll continue to do so.
