Ms. Toni Watkins is a mother, grandmother, Wilkinsburg native, and 2x breast cancer survivor. Ms. Toni’s cancer journey was not easy. She underwent surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments with the support of family and friends by her side throughout the trying process. After surviving her first breast cancer diagnosis, Ms. Toni was confident she “was not going to ever get cancer again.” However, 18 years later, her breast cancer came back resulting in having to get a double mastectomy as a treatment option.  

Today, Ms. Toni is still undergoing treatment, yet she looks nothing like what she has been through. She boldly continues to tell her story to raise awareness of breast cancer and support other women with cancer. She finds strength in the fact that when she shares her testimony, she can say, “Look at me. I’m a living experience. [Cancer] does not have to be a death sentence.”   

As a Healthy Babies Zone Community Champion, the Healthy Start community has become a part of Ms Toni’s family and support system. She describes Healthy Babies Zone as an initiative that supports mothers and their babies, ensuring that they “get the best care even if you don't know the care that you should be receiving.”
