This year, I changed the name of my team to Shirley Strong because my mom Shirley Garcia was diagnosed with breast cancer in December of 2020. She started chemotherapy January 4 followed by a double mastectomy June 3 and radiation started in July and should be finished with that this week. Immunotherapy will be concluded in February. That's a lot folks. Mom has attacked this with nothing but strength, courage, and grace.
She worked for Bixby Public Schools in Transportation for many years and retired in May. I hear through my sister Angi Tucker that there are quite a few people that would like to participate in the race. So please join us in the fight against this nasty thing called "breast cancer" that affects one in eight women.
