It has been 18 months since I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. I am thankful after 4 surgeries my breast reconstruction is complete and breast cancer is behind me. However, my scars are a daily reminder of the impact breast cancer had on me physically, mentally, and emotionally. Some days it still brings me to tears and I wonder if the fear of reoccurrence will ever go away. I share my story often in hopes it may help another woman. Remember to stay familiar with what is normal for your body and to stay current with screening mammograms. Early detection can lead to a better prognosis.
I am choosing to support and fundraise for Susan G. Komen due to the support they provide. In one year, Komen funds: 90,748 screening mammograms, 23,552 diagnostics, 33,646 treatment assistance services and over 40 clinical trials. Making a donation to Toledo's Race for the Cure can provide support for women in our community who may need assistance. If you feel this is a cause you want to support, consider donating or signing up for Toledo's Race for the Cure!
