SOPHIE'S Story

This year, we joined the ONE Komen community and registered for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in honor of the amazing Sophie Allen. I am dedicated to Komen's ONE mission of ending breast cancer forever, and I need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.

Sophie was shockingly diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer when she was 26 when her new gynecologist did Sophie's first breast exam. Friends, do your monthly breast self-exam and have your doctor do a breast exam at your annual checkup. With the support of Susan G. Komen-sponsored research and the amazing doctors at Duke, she beat cancer with aggressive treatment including 6 chemos, then a double mastectomy and wonderful reconstruction by the amazing Michael Zenn, M.D.  9 days later she appeared on WRAL-TV as the star of the top fundraising team for the 2021 Triangle Race for the Cure, SOPHIE'S SUPERSTARS! Let’s beat that record this year!

Ever the warrior, Sophie beat the cancer after 8 months of aggressive treatment, ending with 5 weeks of daily radiation. She went running with her rescue dog Ollie the morning of her last radiation. If you have ever experienced radiation, you get to ring a bell after the last radiation: Sophie rang the hell out of that bell.

Now it’s the time for the tissues.  August 14, 2021, 51 days after Sophie beat cancer, she was killed in a hit and run while walking with her dear friend on a sidewalk at lunchtime on a Saturday near Wrigley field in Chicago during her first post-COVID post-cancer trip. Here is the tribute to her amazing life.

She lived every single moment of her amazing life to the fullest and we are so inspired to do the same. In Sophie’s honor, Cherish every moment!  Live YOUR best life!

Your support helps us get ONE step closer to a world without breast cancer. Funds raised help support breakthrough research and provide assistance to those facing breast cancer today who need our support.  Whether it’s emotional support via Komen’s helpline, financial support through Komen’s treatment assistance program, or help navigating their care journey, Komen will be there for them.

In moments like this, your generosity can make a real difference. Together, let’s show breast cancer patients there’s a whole community standing by their side.

Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today?
