Beth Ann's Story

Family and Friends-

A bit about my journey -  At the end of 2010, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  After 2 surgeries and radiation, I was deemed cancer free.  I regained my strength and stamina after a period of time and I vowed to spend more quality time with my husband and three young kids, and to take better care of myself.  I did that and life was good!

After my third clean mammogram, I was utterly shocked to dicover a small lump just 6 weeks later.  After biopsies, I learned that my breast cancer had returned.  A second time in the same breast.  Thankful for early detection, which is indeed key!  Three weeks later I had a double mastectomy (2012).  There were a few minor complications during the reconstructive process, but after 11 months (July 2013), I was done!  Hallelujah!!

Several weeks later, I found a small lump.  Having just had surgery, I assumed it was scar tissue.I tried telling myself that it was nothing.  But if you have ever had cancer you know that every lump, bump, and bruise is concerning.  I got it checked out and it was indeed another tumor.   Apparently less than 2% of those that have had a mastectomy can get breast cancer again.  I am one of the 2%.  This tumor was a different kind of breast cancer and it was invasive.  Another lumpectomy and node biopsies, they found the nodes were clean. Praise God!  Four months of chemotherapy and 28 (more) radiation treatments (completed March, 2014(, then recovery from that.

Jump ahead to 2019- the Triangle Race for the Cure was on May 4th, which happens to be my birthday.  This one especially meaningful, as I was turning 50 and I had hit my 5 year mark of being cancer free!!  My "5 & 50" !  What a celebration!!

The global pandemic brought the world to a stop.  This caused the next several Komen races to be done virtually.  The Triangle Race for the Cure falls on May 4th again this year!  I'm still cancer free!  My "10 & 55"!!                                                                                  HELP ME CELEBRATE !!!!!

This year, I joined the ONE Komen community and registered for the Susan G. Komen RACE FOR THE CURE.  I am dedicated to Komen's ONE mission of ending breast cancer forever, and I need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.

Your support helps us get ONE step closer to a world without breast cancer. Funds raised help support breakthrough research and provide assistance to those facing breast cancer today who need our support.  Whether it’s emotional support via Komen’s helpline, financial support through Komen’s treatment assistance program, or help navigating their care journey, Komen will be there for them.

In moments like this, your generosity can make a real difference. Together, let’s show breast cancer patients there’s a whole community standing by their side.
