Cornice's Story
In 2026, I heard the words no woman ever wants to hear: “You have breast cancer.”
I was diagnosed with multifocal breast cancer, and in an instant, life as I knew it changed. I underwent chemotherapy and surgery, but while those words describe the treatment, they could never fully capture the journey.
Cancer changes you. It changes your body, your mind, your spirit, and sometimes even the way you recognize yourself. There were difficult days, uncertain days, and days when simply making it through was enough, but there was also an incredible amount of love.
My family and friends stood beside me. They prayed for me, encouraged me, carried me when I was tired, and reminded me that I was never fighting alone. Their love became part of my strength, and I will carry it with me forever.
That is why this walk is so deeply personal.
I walk because I survived, but I also walk for every woman who will come after me and become a member of this club none of us ever asked to join. I walk for the woman who has not received her diagnosis yet, the woman who does not know that one day she may look in the mirror and see a body that has changed while trying to protect a mind and spirit that cancer is determined to challenge.
I want her to know that there is life on the other side of those frightening days. There is laughter after the tears, beauty after the scars, and strength in places you never knew existed. Most importantly, there is an entire community ready to walk beside her.
Today, I have the privilege of walking as a survivor, but when Team Cornice takes those steps with me, we are walking for something much bigger than my story.
We walk for the women who came before us and for the women who are still fighting. We walk for the families and friends who become warriors right alongside the people they love. We walk for more research, more treatment options, more survivors, and the hope that one day, no woman will have to hear the words that changed my life.
And we walk for her, the woman who does not know yet that one day she may need us.
When that day comes, I hope she inherits more than the fight. I hope she inherits the progress we fought for.
Cancer changed me, but it did not defeat me. My scars are not the end of my story; they are proof that I am still here to write it.
TEAM CORNICE
We fought. We survived. Now we walk so she can too.
WE’RE BETTER THAN CANCER.
CORNICE ALEXANDER,
