This year, breast cancer became more than a pink ribbon or a cause I supported, it became my story.
Breast cancer has already touched my family deeply. Two of my aunts have battled breast cancer, and unfortunately, one of them passed away from this disease. I never imagined that one day I would be facing my own breast cancer journey. That is why participating in this walk means so much to me, it's personal.
At 35 years old, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. Since then, my journey has included surgery, fertility preservation, chemotherapy, losing my hair, difficult days, unexpected strength, & countless prayers. My journey isn't over yet. I'm still undergoing treatment, with radiation ahead, but every day I wake up and keep going is another victory.
There have been days when I've cried, days when I've been afraid, & days when I haven't felt like myself. But through it all, I continue to choose faith, hope, and the fight.
This year, I'm walking the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure as a survivor, as a niece, and as a woman determined to keep fighting. I'm walking in honor of my aunt who survived, in memory of my aunt who gained her wings, for myself, and for every woman and family whose life has been forever changed by breast cancer.
Every step is personal. Every step has a purpose. Every step represents hope.
I may have breast cancer, but breast cancer does not have me.
Thank you for supporting my journey, praying for me, donating, and walking beside me. Your support means more than you could ever know.
With love, faith & strength, Kiara.
