It was Aprill 2022 when my life was upended by a breast cancer diagnosis. What followed was a double mastectomy, six rounds of chemotherapy, one year of HER2+ antibody drug infusions, and an emotional and physically rollercoaster that tested my very soul. On July 3, 2023, I gratefully rang the bell signifying the end of my active treatment and the beginning of my life as a breast cancer survivor.
I’d faced serious health challenges before, yet getting through breast cancer treatment was the hardest thing that I have ever had to do. After becoming a survivor, I felt compelled to find a way to help others who would find themselves in a similar fight.
I was unable to work during treatment, and as an independent contractor at the time, the consequences of that hit hard. It was during this time that I received a financial assistance grant from the Susan G. Komen organization. That grant was a lifeline for me.
Financial assistance grants are just one of the many ways that Komen supports breast cancer patients. The money raised for this years’ Komen Georgia 2026 Race for the Cure, will fund such grants, as well as research to discover more effective treatments, and vital patient support services including connecting patients and caregivers to breast cancer education and information, emotional support, and patient navigation services.
Please join me and my team Hooters’ Hope as we continue to do all that we can do to financially support Komen and therefore, directly support breast cancer fighters. No donation is too small. Take it from me, your generosity truly does make a difference!
