2026 sure has been a year. After a mammogram in January followed by multiple rounds of imaging and a false negative biopsy, I was diagnosed with stage 2 adenoid cystic carcinoma in the breast in April. This type of cancer makes up less than 1% of all breast cancer diagnoses. After 3 surgeries and 30 rounds of radiation, I plan to be ringing the bell at the end of August! Ladies-get your routine screening, and don't hesitate to push for answers when things don't sound right!
Becoming part of "the club you never wanted to be part of" has been the hardest thing I've ever gone through in a way I struggle to put into words. AND there are so many women who have it so much worse than I do. I'm using my story to shamelessly push, maybe even guilt, my friends and family into reaching my goal to raise $2,500 for Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. I sure won't be breaking any PRs in October, but this race is about a whole lot more this year.
Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts. And don't forget those corporate match submissions! This year 380,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S. We need to do better! Funds raised help support breakthrough research and provide assistance to those facing breast cancer who need our support. Now, more than ever, private donations are needed to continue to support research.
