My Story
Hi everyone!
My name is Carissa, and I was diagnosed at 32 with metastatic breast cancer in May 2025. This journey has changed my life in so many ways, but one thing it has shown me is just how important community and support truly are.
I've decided to make a team for the Susan G. Komen race here in Toledo, OH on September 27, 2026. Our team name is:
NW Ohio Stage IV Crew
I actually did crew in high school at Anthony Wayne, so this name feels especially meaningful to me. One thing crew taught me is that nobody rows alone. Everyone helps carry each other through the hardest moments, and that's exactly what I want this team to represent for those of us living with metastatic breast cancer.
As of NOW, this would be the only DEDICATED METASTATIC BREAST CANCER TEAM for the Toledo area race, which makes this feel even more special and important to me. I would love for this team to help bring more visibility, support, and awareness to the Stage IV community here in Northwest Ohio.
I would love for this to be a team made up of metastatic warriors, survivors, caregivers, family, friends, and anyone wanting to help support metastatic breast cancer awareness.
Because nobody should have to fight this alone !
Even if you are not near Toledo, OH, you can still join our team virtually and be part of NW Ohio Stage IV Crew from anywhere. All registrations include a race shirt, and every donation helps support awareness, research, and those living with this terrible disease.
Stage IV deserves more.
