I lost my mom to breast cancer in early 2025. It was horrible. I’ll never be able to put aside what I saw her go through. It hurts me every day. My mother had first been diagnosed a little less than 10 years earlier. She had a double mastectomy, and went through chemo. She fought a hard fight and she won. She was one of the toughest people I’ve ever known. When my sister got involved with the Komen organization, my mom was also happy to be a part of it. She ran every year. She was proud of herself for being a survivor, and I think it made her feel even better to see so many other women (and men!) who had made it through and were thriving- not to mention all the families and friends that were there to support as well. When her cancer came back, she still talked about trying to make it to the next race, even if she was in a wheelchair. Last year I ran for the first time, in her honor. And I’m doing so again. But this time I’d like to ask for a little help to raise some money to fight this fight. Komen is an organization that does real, measurable good for people who are fighting cancer. If you can help with even a single dollar, I ask you to please, please do so. Maybe together we can help some more families. Some more moms. I thank you, with all my heart.
