Still Here. Still Fighting.

In 2023, I found a lump in my breast—only a few months after my first “clear” mammogram at age 41. I honestly thought it was nothing. But after another mammogram, an ultrasound, and a biopsy, I learned the news I never expected: I had triple negative breast cancer.

You never imagine hearing those words in what feels like the prime of your life. Despite my family history of cancer—and the quiet belief that someday it might catch up with me—I didn’t expect it so soon. I’m grateful to now be on the other side of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, surgeries, and radiation. My hair is growing back into a fun new style, my face finally looks like me again, my strength is returning, and I’m starting to enjoy the things I love.

But the truth is, life will never be the same. A colleague who was diagnosed with the same cancer at the same time recently learned hers has metastasized. She is now fighting for her life. My heart breaks for her, and it brings back the memories of both my grandmother and mother‑in‑law—women I loved deeply—who faced the same battle and never recovered. This reality is never far from my mind. I am a positive person, but the fear of recurrence lingers in ways you don’t fully understand until you’ve lived it.

So I choose to make meaning from this experience—not just for myself, but for our daughter. I want a future where she never has to go through what I did. That’s why I joined the Susan G. Komen organization as a Community Board Member serving NC/SC and why I proudly support the annual RTP Race for the Cure.

I am dedicated to Komen’s mission to end breast cancer forever—and I need your help. Please consider making a tax‑deductible donation in support of my fundraising efforts.

Your gift brings us closer to a world without breast cancer. Funds raised support breakthrough research and provide real-time help for people facing a diagnosis—from emotional support to financial assistance to navigation services that break down barriers to care. Komen is there when people need it most.

Ending breast cancer takes all of us. Your generosity truly can change lives. Together, we can show every breast cancer patient that an entire community stands beside them.

Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today?
