When Cindy Dyas was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1991, she made a choice that would impact thousands of lives — she chose to fight, not just for herself, but for every person who would ever hear those same devastating words.

By 1992, Cindy had turned her diagnosis into action, becoming a passionate advocate for cancer research and improved patient care. She was instrumental in bringing the Race for the Cure to Columbus, Ohio — a dream that became reality in 1993 when approximately 800 runners and walkers gathered together with one shared purpose. By 2010, that number had grown to 50,000 strong. Over the years, the Race has raised more than $14 million to support Ohio cancer research and grants — a legacy that Cindy helped build from the very beginning.

As a founding member of the Columbus Komen Board, Cindy chaired the VIP Reception and Awards Committee and walked in every race but one before she passed away in December 2005. She gave everything she had to this cause — and her spirit lives on in every step taken on that course.

Cindy's Crusade is more than a team name. It is a tribute to our mom, our friend, our fierce and loving advocate — and to every family who has sat in a doctor's office and heard words that changed their lives forever. Because this disease does not just touch one family. It touches all of us.

We run for Cindy. We run for your mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends. We run because the work is not finished — and we will not stop until it is.
