Forty years ago, my grandmother, Catherine Head, lost her life to breast cancer.

Forty years later, I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma.

I am in remission — but I am still fighting.

Her fight is part of my story. And my survival is part of her legacy.

I am fighting as her granddaughter.

I am fighting as a Black woman.

I am fighting as a mother to Greyson.

And I am fighting for myself.

But I have not done this alone.

My doctors.

My family.

My friends.

My community.

My prayer warriors.

My village.

Your encouragement, your presence, your generosity — it has carried me.

This year, I am walking in the Race for the Cure.

I am partnering with the Komen community for the 2026 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday, May 16th in Columbus, Ohio.
