I started this team, Waging War on Stage IV with Hipple’s Heroes, 22 years ago as my sister had just finished treatment for early stage breast cancer. Our Race friends and family have surrounded us with love and support ever since. In the years since that first race, my family has been greatly affected by breast cancer. My sister’s cancer returned and metastasized, my grandmother died with breast cancer, and both my stepsister and myself were diagnosed with breast cancer. Funds raised from these Race for the Cure events have helped fund research leading to advances in screening and treatments. Julie lived life to the fullest for 13 years after her Stage IV diagnosis thanks to those advances and treatments. Julie was an amazing mother, daughter, sister, friend, and teacher. She was also an strong advocate for those facing breast cancer. While it’s hard to go on… just like Julie, we won’t let cancer control our lives or stop us from advocating for a cure. Don’t Stop Believing!
Will you join me in Komen's ONE mission to end breast cancer?
