Last year's race marked the one year passing of my mom, a breast cancer survivor, and I ran in her honor. The race was a turning point for me. Thinking about my mom in the year after her passing was tough. The last year of her life was a struggle. When I started the race I was in tears thinking of my mom, but I forced myself to think of the wonderful times we shared: some funny - my mom was witty and gregarious; some educational - my mom was a teacher and loved to read to us and teach us language and history; some inspiring - my mom was perceptive and wise and could read my mind and say what I needed to hear to be strong; and many, many fun times traveling, playing games, learning to bake, and in all the ways she actively participated in our lives. I am so grateful that she survived cancer and that my girls got to know what a wonderful person my mom was.
I am running again this year to help ensure that everyone who has breast cancer has the support they need to beat it and go on to live a healthy and happy life of inspiration and strength. I am dedicated to Komen's dual mission of ending breast cancer through research and providing support to patients in need. The Komen Foundation provides financial assistance, navigation services to break down barriers to care, and emotional support to patients and family. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.
Ending breast cancer needs all of us, and your generosity can make a real difference. Together, let's show breast cancer patients there's a whole community standing by their side. Please join me in this fight by donating today.
