I am raising funds for the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure in Houston on Oct 4th. I was diagnosed with breast cancer on April 29. After a summer filled with appointments, tests, scans etc, I had a double mastectomy in July and am happy to report I am in remission. I feel grateful and fortunate that I caught it myself early, and that the research, care and treatments available are so much better than they once were. That I was led to incredible breast cancer surgeons and an amazing oncologist. And that because of the dedicated breast cancer research and treatments we have today, my doctors were able to work quickly to assess treatment and get me to surgery. I am blessed beyond belief. And because of that I am raising funds for an organization that has paved the way for the screenings and awareness and research and treatments that we have today that are saving lives like mine. This has been a life changing event for me and I am so grateful to have had my faith and our Lord by my side and incredible support from my family, but especially my husband who has been my rock during this time, my amazing kids, and beautiful group of friends that have been with me every step of the way. **And to all my women friends - Please, Please do your self exams. I found a lump 8 weeks after a completely normal mammogram. I wasn’t good about checking myself and it was a complete accident and miracle how I found it. My tumor had already grown in one month from the biopsy to the MRI and I just can’t imagine where I might be had they found it next year on the next mammogram. Please check yourself every single week!
