My daughter, Katie, started Kindergarten in 1998, when as a 38-year old mother of 2, I heard the devastating news that I had aggressive node-positive breast cancer. I pursued a path of aggressive treatment and with support of family, friends, and other breast cancer survivors through organizations like Komen found light at the end of the tunnel.
Fast forward 23 years to 2021 and i get the news again. A routine mammogram finds not only breast cancer in one breast but in both breasts. Lucky? Yes, they found my cancer before anything could be felt in the breast. Lucky? Yes, you could say that. I saw Katie and my wonderful son, Kevin graduate from middle school, high school, and college. Lucky, when I predicted about 3-5 years and instead, I got to walk my daughter down the aisle just a year after my second diagnosis.
I’ve been so Lucky to have been mentored and touched by so many women in organizations like Susan G. Komen who were there for me when I needed to understand treatment and how to raise a 5 and 10 year old while dealing with treatment and such fear of the future. Lucky to have the support of groups like those that Komen offers and Lucky to have organizations like Komen for women whether they are newly diagnosed or BC veterans like myself.
Please support me and my group of Lucky Charms as we raise funds for an organization that not only supports a cure but helps so many women as they live with this devastating disease. We started walking back in 1998 when I was donning my platinum blond wig! This year I’ll walk with my wonderful partner, Mike, Kevin & Cortney, and Katie & Bryan. We walk to continue programs and services for Komen and honor all those women we have loved that have lost their battle. Please support my team members!
