Kristen was first diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in the fall of 2015. After leading a rather medically complex life, this diagnosis felt like another awful gut punch. Kristen underwent a double mastectomy and additional treatment. She was officially declared cancer free in December 2020.
In 2023, Kristen began experiencing pain in her hip that sent her to the doctor. After investigating her pain, she was sent for a biopsy. That biopsy confirmed that her breast cancer had returned and progressed to lungs and bones and is now stage IV, otherwise referred to as metastatic breast cancer (MBC).
Treatment of MBC is intended to prolong the lives of those afflicted, but there is no cure, making this diagnosis a particularly difficult one to process. Kristen and her circle of loved ones are hopeful that treatment will give her many years of new experiences and quality time. Each new treatment is hope for more time that is so desperately needed.
Breast cancer is among the most common form of cancer to affect women. We are raising money through Susan G. Komen's Race for the Cure this year in support of Kristen's journey and to contribute to a better future for her and those like her.
