I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. I was 43, and very healthy, the picture of health - or at least I thought so. I was the typical overscheduled mother. There were no aches, no pain, no feeling of illness or something wrong leading to this.
The cancer pulsing inside my body was aggressive; surgery was not an option until after chemotherapy. I began my cocktail right away – 5 months of the strongest chemo drugs available, followed by a bilateral mastectomy, reconstruction and radiation
I might have had an aggressive cancer spreading quickly throughout my body, but looking back on it, I feel lucky.
Cancer has given me a profound sense of gratitude and made me much more aware of all the good that surrounds me both every day and in the extraordinary.
Through it all God provided me with great medical care, fantastic friends that supported me and our family. And His word to always remind me, He will be with me through it all.
When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. Isaiah 43:2
As a member of this team, we are each playing a part in helping Susan G. Komen® in their mission to end breast cancer forever.
