As most of you know, I was diagnosed with Stage 1A breast cancer on August 5, 2020. I chose to get a lumpectomy, followed by several weeks of daily radiation treatments. However, after getting results from the lump biopsy, my oncologist recommended four chemotherapy treatments before I started radiation.
I started chemotherapy the week before Christmas, and finished my last treatment in mid-February 2021. I started radiation treatments in mid-March, and finished my last radiation treatment on May 4.
Even though cancer was hard, I have chosen to look for the silver linings whenever possible. I had good friends who had already gone through much worse than me with their cancer treatments, and they were very supportive to give me advice and encouragement. Furthermore, I had a friend from high school who was diagnosed with the same kind of cancer, and we had similar treatments during the same time frame. I also have had several friends who have been diagnosed after I wad, and I’ve been able to be there for them.
I had an amazing support team that helped me fight this battle — parents, relatives, friends and, most of all, my amazing husband, Bobby, and our wonderful son, Ian. Every step of the way, I also knew that God was with me — everything I went through was part of His plan.
This year, I joined the ONE Komen community and registered for the Susan G. Komen RACE FOR THE CURE. I am dedicated to Komen's ONE mission of ending breast cancer forever, and I need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.
Your support helps us get ONE step closer to a world without breast cancer. Funds raised help support breakthrough research and provide assistance to those facing breast cancer today who need our support. Whether it’s emotional support via Komen’s helpline, financial support through Komen’s treatment assistance program, or help navigating their care journey, Komen will be there for them.
In moments like this, your generosity can make a real difference. Together, let’s show breast cancer patients there’s a whole community standing by their side.
Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today?
