Last year I met the most broken version of me, but also the strongest. So please allow me to reintroduce myself: my name is Rejani Nair, and I am a Breast Cancer THRIVER!!!
Since last year, I have completed so many milestones in my life. I finished 6 months of Chemotherapy and rang the bell! I had Surgery to remove the remaining cancer and I completed 5 weeks of Radiation therapy. It was quite a tough year, but I was able to recover and enjoy the holidays with my family and friends.
When this year started, I was hoping that when I went back to see my Oncologist it would just be for a wellness visit, but she had other plans in store for me I’m not going to lie; it was a rough start of the year for me. I was starting to get used to not having any Dr. visits or treatments! I had to get my mind right for the fight this year. Although I am in Remission, I still need to fight everyday to keep it that way.
I have started my treatment for the next few years and I have promised to put my health first. Once the radiation effects weaned off, I started to exercise again and regain my strength. Thanks to my family and close friends, I have started my wellness journey! I have worked hard and will continue to work on building my strength, especially after last year. Today I feel stronger than I did before I even got my diagnosis.
We had to put a lot on hold last year, and this year we are putting fourth all effort to make up for it. My kids(now 9 and 7 years old) have started sports and swimming and they are so good at it! We also started to travel to see family and friends. I recently turned 40 and was able to celebrate with all my loved ones! I am thrilled that I have some normalcy in my life, and I often find myself stepping back, soaking it all in and counting my blessings!
This month I am getting ready for my next surgical procedure to help lower my risks. I am hoping that I will recover in time for the walk on October 5th. Even if I can’t, the fight must go on!
I hope you all will donate and join us in the Race for the Cure. There are so many others affected by Breast Cancer that need help. Please consider donating in support of my Fundraising efforts for this amazing Organization. Any amount helps, and it is Tax Deductible. Funds raised will not only help support breakthrough research but also aid so many of those facing Breast Cancer every day and need support. Whether it’s emotional support via Komen’s Helpline, financial support through Komen’s Treatment Assistance Program, or help navigating this difficult journey, the ONE Komen Community will be there for us.
Your financial contribution is greatly appreciated, but do try and join us on Saturday, October 5th for the Susan G. Komen RACE FOR THE CURE. Your support will help us get ONE step closer to a world without Breast Cancer!
Will you please join me in this FIGHT by donating and / or walking with my Team?
