I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer on June 30, 2006 at 3 pm. It is pretty incredible to be able to pinpoint that day and time just like I have done with the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated and the first plane crashed into the World Trade Center on 9/11/2001. I am blessed to be a survivor 18 years later and able to walk again this year.
I am walking in honor of my dear friend, Lynette Hawkins. Many of you know her as the brilliant chef and owner of Giacomo's Cibo e Vino. All of us were amazed at her courage and dedication as she went through months of chemotherapy, surgery and radiation therapy. She was so focused on making sure the restaurant continued to provide the most incredible food and her amazing staff stepped up to make sure she could take the necessary time off to kick some serious cancer butt. This walk is for you, Lynette. Here's to many more years of good food and good friends who love you dearly.
I am grateful for all the support in research and free screening/prevention that Susan G. Komen provides and I walk to raise awareness and funding for them to continue to be there for those battling cancer and their families.
Thank you to all who have been there for me on this journey. Every day is a gift. That's why they call it the present.
With much love and gratitude.
Linda
