Last week, we lost a dear friend, Sarah, after her long and brave battle with breast cancer. Many of you might remember her as the warm and welcoming owner of the coffee house in Columbus, TX. Sarah’s dream of creating a community came to life with that coffee shop.
Sarah played a special role in the BCO/HTXO community too. We listened to live music and sipped coffee on the lawn after tubing. The band that rocked Rock Out Weekend? That was because of Sarah. True to her style, she arrived just as the show was winding down, leaving her unique mark on the event, as she always did.
When I launched HTXoutdoors in 2017, Sarah was one of the first to step up and lead. She took charge of the farmer’s market bike rides and was constantly helping me build connections for the club.
Even in our very last conversation, she was still thinking of others, trying to set up a media connection for us.
Sarah and I met in 2011 when I first moved to Houston. What began as a friendship over Sunday football at Little Woodrows, Taco Tuesdays at St. Danes, and countless pool parties, blossomed into a bond that saw us through many life changes.
I have Tucker because of Sarah. She completely enhanced my RV life by introducing me to the RV community in Columbus. I'm a better person and friend because of Sarah.
In Sarah’s honor, I invite you to join me in donating as little as a cup of coffee, you can help support breast cancer research and prevent others from facing their last cup.
If you’re unable to donate right now, I encourage you to honor Sarah in another way—by doing something you’ve been meaning to do for a while, no matter how small.
One of our last conversations was about the power of trying. Sarah reminded me that even the smallest efforts can make a big difference.
So today, just try. Get off the couch, step outside, breathe deeply, and take a moment to appreciate life.
Let’s keep Sarah’s spirit alive by continuing to build community, support each other, and, most importantly, just try.
With gratitude and love,
Amy Hope
