Your gift could provide a one month supply of Tamoxifen, a drug used to treat breast cancers that rely on estrogen for growth, to a patient in need. Every 60 seconds, somewhere in the world, someone dies from breast cancer. Your gift will help save lives! Your gift could provide a screening mammogram to an uninsured or underinsured person in need. Your gift could provide a breast prosthesis for an uninsured or underinsured woman in need. Your gift will help us reach our bold goal to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. within the next decade!

My Story

I got involved with Komen because in November of 2022, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  I am one of the lucky ones who had the best possible type of Breast Cancer ER+  (Estrogen Receptor) and PR+ (Progesterone Receptor) and HER2 Negative.  My tumor was very large, and I needed a mastectomy.  I chose a bilateral to lesson the risk of recurrence.  2 years, 5 surgeries later, an I am walking in my Second Komen race since developing the disease.

In my journey, I have met so many women who were less fortunate than me and had to go through radiation and treatment, each person’s journey is different and very specific to them.  Even men can and do experience breast cancer.  I am vocal about my experience and have met many people who have shared their individual stories with me.  I am lucky they trust me enough to share their experience, their hopes, and their fears.  Together we are a band on Wonder Women on a mission to eradicate Breast Cancer and we race for a cure.

This year, Sylvia and I decided to walk four of the five races in Texas (one of which is on the same day as the Houston race where I live) that made UBS a National team and we are hoping that others will join in on this fight across the country.  Nashville has already stepped up and created a team, THANK YOU NASHVILLE.

As individual as each person’s cancer is, so is their reason for walking (or not walking).  It is emotional to see the white doves at the beginning of the race that represent those who gave their lives and it is inspiring to see so many women enter the survivor lane to finish the race.

I walk to help fund research so my children and my granddaughter, Mila and the women their generations can have even better odds of not having to experience this disease.

It would be a blessing and an honor to have as many UBS employee’s and their families walk with us in Unison to show support for each other and to protect our future.

Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today?
